Concrete dipped crochet, image transfer

This process connects textile image-making with photography. Many textile practices construct images through grids and repetition; photography does so through pixels. Translating a photograph into crochet makes reproduction physical. Photographic transfer applied to the crocheted structure then causes the two systems to overlap and fragment one another.
By interweaving photographic fragments into the work, memory is treated as materially constructed and partially obscured. This work extends this method to architectural deterioration. A water-damaged cathedral wall is translated into crochet and concrete as exposed plaster shifts architecture toward abstraction. Deterioration becomes a threshold between concealment and exposure, preservation and transformation.
